The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) is seeking an energetic and creative Marketing & Communications Specialist to serve as an essential member of the Marketing and Communications team supporting NHPCO and its affiliate organizations. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Specialist will function as a marketing and communications generalist, bridging multiple content forms and channels while acting as a liaison to NHPCO’s Membership, Education and Events teams, as well as outreach programs like CaringInfo.org and the National Hospice Foundation. The Marketing & Communications Specialist will support NHPCO’s social media engagement and work as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment that fosters creativity.
The Marketing & Communications Specialist is based in the Washington, DC area and is eligible to work a hybrid telework arrangement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Acts as marketing and communications lead supporting internal clients who manage key organizational functions: Membership, Education, Events, CaringInfo.org, and the National Hospice Foundation.
Writes and edits content for a wide variety of formats, including blogs, websites, social media, newsletters, promotional emails, press releases, magazines and journals, speeches, conference and event scripts and presentations, podcasts, and more.
Oversees NHPCO social media accounts, including developing and implementing approaches for growing engagement; creating and scheduling content; managing campaigns, and gathering, analyzing, and reporting on metrics.
Develops social media graphics using Canva.
Plans and manages production of NHPCO podcast, with 6-8 episodes per year.
Oversees weekly member email, NewsBriefs, including planning, soliciting, and editing content, and coordinating distribution.
Writes and/or edits, formats, and distributes other member emails.
Manages small-scale, paid digital advertising, including boosted social media content and retargeting campaigns.
Gathers and distributes media reports, including tracking NHPCO media mentions and stories impacting the hospice and palliative care community.
Serves as backup for NHPCO website changes and edits.
Oversees content decisions for, and uploads content to, ehospiceUSA, an external partner website for which NHPCO acts as content manager.
Develops template outreach materials for NHPCO member organizations to utilize, such as for Volunteer Week and National Hospice Month.
Works with member committees and councils, providing communications support and acting as staff liaison to one council.
Provides support to NHPCO and affiliate events, as needed.
Contributes to the marketing and communications team’s collective thinking and expertise around communications, branding, marketing, public relations, and outreach for NHPCO and affiliates the National Hospice Foundation and the Hospice Action Network.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred, along with two to three years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related function.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; experience with social media on behalf of an organization/brand/institution preferred; Experience with Canva and/or video editing software are a plus.

This position is classified as a full-time, non-exempt hourly position with a starting base salary at $31.87 to $47.80/hour (commensurate with related experience) plus an opportunity to earn annual merit increases and potential, but not guaranteed, performance bonuses.
