Ensures day-to-day operations of laboratory and pathology information systems in conjunction with our Information Technology department and Laboratory leadership team. The individual must have a general knowledge of all the functions of the clinical and anatomic laboratories. Strong knowledge of Laboratory Information System (LIS) operations needed in each area to produce efficient and quality results. Must have strong analytic ability to resolve any technical issues while managing the LIS, including; implementations, upgrades, testing, user training, middleware, troubleshooting, and instrumentation. Must have the ability to travel from site to site when needed.
Will specialize in pathology Copath system.
Other information:
Five to seven years of clinical lab or related experience. Knowledge of laboratory information systems.
Excellent communication skills and ability to relate well with people of diverse backgrounds, training and experience.
Associate degree in an appropriate science field.
Ability to handle/grip/squeeze and perform repetitive activity. Services include Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, Transfusion Medicine Service, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Coagulation, Immunology and Phlebotomy.
Delaware driver's license with no more than 3 moving violations.
Required:
ASCP Certified Histotechnologist (HT) or ASCP certified Cytotechnologist (CT).
Responsibilities:
Maintains operational functions of the LIS computer systems including the instrument and referral laboratory interfaces and system maintenance. Communicates effectively with all staff regarding information technology (provision of reports, prompt notification of system changes, handling of security requests, requests for new or modification of test codes and all system changes).Identifies and communicates to management the need for software and hardware upgrade. Plans and manages through the budget process. Monitors activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems and revisions in existing systems. Recognizes, reports, troubleshoots and corrects systems problems, providing first call support (i.e., printers, printing, computer-related billing issues). Develops, communicates and maintains LIS related departmental policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with accrediting agency standards (CAP/AABB).Manages projects, communicates status updates, works closely with laboratory management to identify future needs and to improve workflow processes. Reports and maintains records of troubleshooting activities and collaborates with IT and LIS vendors in developing systems that reduce both scheduled and unscheduled down-times. Reports to laboratory quality management. Attends laboratory leadership meetings, IT meetings, regional and national user group meetings. Ensures QA LIS monitors are reported through lab's process improvement program. Provides updates, instructional materials and technical support for laboratory staff (and physician offices with Marketing Manager) related to laboratory computer procedures. Provides competency testing.
