About the PositionThe Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the provider and other team members with back office duties in the outpatient management of behavioral health patients. This position is a vital part of the office team that cares for patients in the clinic setting working under the direction of a nursing supervisor. This position works closely with providers, other clinical staff, and front office staff. Work situations are a variety of clinical functions within a clinic setting requiring knowledge and integration of available standards, resources, and data; discretion; good judgment; diplomacy; decision making; and a customer service attitude. Acting as the patient advocate the Medical Assistant has continuous contact with physicians, patients, patient families/ significant others, community agencies, and Behavioral Health patient care staff and management.Position Functions & Responsibilities:- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include:∙ Checking schedules and assisting in organizing patient flow, ∙ Performing screenings per provider instruction, collecting specimens, obtaining vital signs∙ Assisting the medical providers/nurses in exams and with various procedures∙ Coordinating medication refills per physicians' instructions∙ Able to complete phlebotomy as needed∙ Documenting patient encounter, completed tasks, patient data, and all other information required by regulatory agencies∙ Relaying instructions or information to patients/families∙ Answering calls and providing pertinent information (clinical information as directed by the provider or RN)∙ Performing other clinical related duties within the scope defined in the WACs- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: ∙ Sending/receiving patient medical records∙ Obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.∙ Schedules referral appointments and explains instructions to patients∙ Preparing information/consent forms for patient as needed∙ Ensuring complete information in the medical record- Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include: ∙ Respecting/promoting patient rights∙ Responding appropriately to emergency codes∙ Participating in quality improvement processes∙ Keeping current on new developments within the MultiCare system- Adheres to MHS Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards. Maintains reliable attendance- Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations and core values (respect, integrity, stewardship, excellence, collaboration and kindness), continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assignedPosition RequirementsSkills, Education, & Experience:- Completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistants required- Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified (MA-C) or Interim Certification for one year before obtaining MA-C- Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program through a post-secondary school or college accredited by a regional or national accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; or- Have your phlebotomy training program's supervising health care practitioner attest that you have successfully completed a phlebotomy training program as outlined under WAC 246-827-0400(2). The attesting health care practitioner, defined under RCW 18.360.010(4), must hold a current Washington state license.- One (1) year experience in physician's office or other medical facility preferredPosition Functions & Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
