Job Duties

• Responsible for performing a variety of standardized radiological/fluoroscopic examinations, operating related equipment and devices, maintaining safe radiation practices and maintaining related records.
• Performs standardized radiological and fluoroscopic examinations involving proper positioning of patient, techniques, and operation of equipment.
• Verifies correct order and patient identification.
• Reviews and analyzes patient body size, thickness, age, physical condition, and suspected pathology for standardized examinations.
• Assists physicians with various procedures.
• Utilizes digital technology for image production.
• Responsible for Qualtiy Assurance of images sent to picture archiving communication systems.
• Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
• Provides necessary education to the patient.
• Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.
• Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart.
• Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Administers first aid and assists in cases of adverse reaction to media.
• Imaging exams and procedure tray set up require access and handling of non-controlled medications.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification - American Heart Association (AHA); Certified Radiology Technologist - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
