Position Summary
Candidates must be a licensed and practicing Registered Nurse in the state of MI with at least two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse. The Sexual Assault Healthcare Program will provide training, mentoring and support for the candidate to become trained as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). The Sexual Assault Healthcare Program provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to sexual assault patients. This includes a medical forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate resources, medical follow-up, support, and participation in legal proceedings. The Sexual Assault Healthcare Program is open 24/7 365 days per year. This candidate will work overnight shifts.

Summary of Health Risks
All nurses provide healthcare to patients putting them at increased exposure to health risks.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Nursing; at least two years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in Nursing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position also requires a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Michigan.
Desired Qualifications
Two years' minimum registered nursing experience in a hands-on patient care capacity; ability to plan and organize work autonomously; excellent clinical assessment skills; demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, resourcefulness and good judgment in executing the roles and responsibilities of a nurse; ability to work collaboratively with other clinicians and victim service responders; completion of 40-hour didactic Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training; previous work as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner; bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
About Michigan State University Sexual Assault Healthcare Program
MSU Sexual Assault Healthcare Program is a community based program within Center for Survivors on the campus of Michigan State University. Our program is staffed 24/7 by specially trained forensic nurses to provide free and confidential post sexual assault healthcare to anyone 18 years and older within the community or at MSU that has recently experienced a sexual assault. Our services include
-Medical Care
-Medical Forensic Exam within 120 hours of the assault
-Antibiotics for treatment of the most common sexually transmitted infections
-Evidence collection, including DNA, within 120 hours of the assault
-Pregnancy prevention within 120 hours of the assault
-Photographic evidence collection of injuries sustained
-Referrals for medical and emotional support
