Adult Organ Transplant Unit

The Organ Transplant Unit at University Hospital is a 33-bed unit that cares for a variety of organ transplant recipients. The nurses on this unit care for patients that have received kidney, liver, pancreas, intestine, or multi-visceral abdominal transplants. Ideal candidates would exhibit strong initiative, compassion, and integrity. This is a high-functioning unit that allows for collaboration between various disciplines.

• Advanced knowledge and understand of transplant medication and administration
• Drip management
• Cross training to Transplant ICU

Unit Successes:

• CAUTI free for over a year
• Multiple daisy/tulip nominations

Qualifications:

• Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
• Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
• Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
